A family legacy of South Carolina service
Rooted in South Carolina. Built on Service.
Bill Clyburn was born and raised in Camden, South Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Allen University in 1964 and a Master of Education from the University of South Carolina in 1975, then built a career in the classroom that shaped how he approaches public service.
Before he entered the Legislature, Bill was a teacher and served as principal of Aiken Elementary School and later Aiken High School. That experience showed him what strong schools and steady community investment can do for working families.
First elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1994, Bill has represented District 82 since 1995. He serves on the Ways and Means Committee and the Rules Committee, where he works each session to bring resources and sound policy back to Aiken, Edgefield, and Saluda Counties.
Bill is married to Beverly Laverne Dozier Clyburn, and they have three children: William Jr., Wilson Anthony, and Courtney Lavenne. He is a cousin of U.S. Representative Jim Clyburn and continues a family tradition of public service in South Carolina.
